ART STORY: Who is "Rejoice, girl!" & Life Lessons

It's almost Spring and I am ready for a new season in life and in nature. In celebration of the season, meet "Rejoice, girl!" She is a stylish 24 x 48 inch acrylic painting on canvas. This is the second largest painting I have ever made and love how she turned out. She looks like Springtime and joy doesn't she?

She is the 10th and final painting in my "Butterfly Wings" Collection from 2023 and what a show stopper she is.

"Butterfly Wings" Art Collection

In 2024, I was inspired to add a final piece to this collection. As I started this painting, I was feeling frustrated with her process. All the ideas I had for her weren't working out. So I stopped and took a break. A full year later in Summer 2025 that I was reinspired to try again.

This time, I had a different idea. I decided to make her a stylish woman posing in a garden with flowers and butterflies. As I worked on her it felt much easier and fulfilling. It was as if she was telling me, "This is what is right for me wearing my happy dress in a happy garden." Finally, "Rejoice, girl!" was finished and what a joy she was and is.

Here is the YouTube video I made showing how this art was made. Also, watch the "Butterfly Wings Collection" where you will see the other nine paintings in this collection.

What is "Rejoice, girl!" about? She sends a message to actively rejoice. When I was researching the word, I learned that "joy" is a noun and a feeling.  "Rejoice" is a verb and an action. These common words may seen flimsy when faced with life's challenges but they are powerful medicine and anchors to sustain us through life's ups and downs. Rejoicing acknowledges the problem and decides to rejoice anyway. This is not easy but I hope this art points the way to light and joy especially during your difficult times.

Why did I create this collection? If you are like me, the pandemic and all the darkness we faced took a lot of my joy away. Also, when I was in survival mode I lost track of my life's purpose and work. So, I painted this collection to remind me no matter how tough life gets, there is still joy, purpose and even celebration.

So many life lesson can be learned from "Rejoice, girl!"

  • Rejoice- She reminds us that no matter what is happening in life, we can choose to rejoice. Not easy but possible and enpowering.
  • Patience and Timing- Sometimes you need to let things have some breathing room instead of rushing to a ending or solution. You'll know when it's time to deal with it again.
  • Acceptance- It's ok to accept when we don't know what to do. The answers will come.
  • Self-Care- As women, we are excellent at caring for others but sometimes, forget about our needs. So this painting encourages us to go to one of our happy places, recharge and renew ourselves.
  • Permission to Play- I love how the butterflies are saying, "Hey lady, let's have fun and play." As adutls full of responsibities, we can feel irresponsible for playing when life is full, busy or even urgent. But from my experience, playing can help recharge your batteries so you can be a better woman, mom, employee and overall person.
What life lesson speak to you? What is your favorite part about this art? How do you recharge your batteries? Leave a comment. Thanks!

Also, this art is coming to our K. Simone Designs's art shop soon. Feel free pop over to Fine Art America online art store to see our selection.

I hope this art's story inspires you to embrace rejoicing. Whether you sing, dance, pray, or even put on your favorite outfit. It's up to up, girl. Rejoice!

Our Romantic Anniversary Dinner

Happy Thursday! I hope your week has been great.  Today I wanted  to share some of our wedding anniversary pictures with you.  Last Sunday, my hubby arranged for us to have a romantic dinner at the very place where we had our wedding reception.  I was so excited when I found out that they set up a table for us to have the whole banquet room to ourselves.  How great was that??? The restaurant is right on the bay and has the most spectacular  views.  So when we arrived they had a table set up for us right by the windows so we could get an even better view.  They had the rest of the room set up for an event but I still could remember how it looked the night of our wedding with the lights and the dance floor.  Plus the left side of the room is nothing but windows so you can see more of this secluded bay. So as we dined we watched the sunset and it was so fabulous.  Even at night all the lights from the surroundin...

Happy Hearts

Today I will be sharing one a several painting I recently finished. This one is one of my favorites. I wanted to try two faces and just love how they turned out. It was fun going crazy with the multi-colored background. The hearts were made using my new favorite thing to make from toilet paper rolls- STAMPS.  I saw them on Julie Balzer's blog. Toilet Paper Tube Stamps  Then I used my fingers to paint the inside of the hearts. So neat! Take a look and I hope you feel the love and joy in this piece. Aren't the afro's fabulous!!! LOL! They were my first try and look pretty darn good. The little girls afro puff is so cute and reminds me of the ones I had as a child.   I love the hearts on their clothes. I used my stencil to make the design then painted around just to show the insides. Hope you enjoyed and come back this week to see some other paintings. Have a good one!
