K. Simone Designs' Birthday

Today we are celebrating our 2nd anniversary of K. Simone Designs.  April 21, 2011 Ron and I started our greeting card business and opened our Etsy store.  I still remember how excited I was to start this chapter of my life, entrepreneur. Although I have been on a creative break from making cards, I still wanted to reflect on the past year.

I want to thank you all for your support and cheers along the way.  We have the best customers and we feel honored to be apart of their special moments with our cards.

This year, we are looking forward to restocking our shop and taking more custom orders, so stay tuned!

Highlights

The biggest highlight of the year was this video from our dear Twitter friend, Gospel music legend Vickie Winans. Many of you saw it and every time I watch it I still get filled with happy emotions.

Along with all the sales we love to donate, too. Last Summer, we donated to the National Association of Basketball wives' luncheon.  They gave the cards to their honorees one of which was Dr. Martin L. King's daughter Rev. Bernice King. We love being apart of events that honored those making a difference. They turned out so pretty!

Also, we donated to Essence Magazine's Black Women in Hollywood event. They were honoring some fantastic ladies.  We sent the cards and not sure if they were used but we were glad to send them anyways. The more exposure the better.

Well, thanks for walking down memory lane with me today.  I am looking forward to many more great things in the years to come.

My Birthday Blog Party

Welcome to my Birthday Blog Party! I am starting my celebration early to fully enjoy my day. My actual birthday is May 29th but why not start early right? :) When I think of birthdays past, they were always such exciting times for me. Many of my birthdays were celebrated with fun parties from my childhood to my young adult years. I loved all of those special parties and to this day, I still love it. Maybe this is where my love for event planning all started. At my 3rd birthday, my parents gave me a big one. I don't really remember but the pictures are so cool. I had lots of kids there, a clown, a little merry-go-round ride and lots of games. I had a white little outfit on and was looking so cute for a Spring party. Boy, I looked so happy! Also, I was brave not to be afraid of the clown, too. My mom was holding me as I blew the candles out. Another year, I had my first slumber party. That was so fun! I invited several friends and ...

Vintage Layout

I wanted to share this layout with you all. I recently submitted a design team application and I had to make a layout. I haven't made a layout in years so it was a nice challenge. I enjoyed making the first one so much I wanted to try another one. This one is dedicated to my sweet grandmother, Thelma Cobbs. This was her college picture back in the 1930's. I just love this picture of her, the sepia tone color and the style is so classic.  Her style has influenced my artistic approach.  I loved all her lace handkerchiefs, hats, gloves, purses and jewel. So I have taken a lot of her traditional, glamours style and use it on my cards and now layouts.  I know she would be so proud to see her fashion sense in my work. Maybe it is my way of keeping her alive and close to me.  Love and miss you Nana! Supplies used are: Webster's Pages patterned paper, Scenic Route rub-on words, Prima flowers, leaves from Michael's, form adhesive on the lady images, cream ribbon and white...
