INSPIRED SHE Edition: Women's Expo

K. Simone Designs is a business my husband and I started years ago. Since then, we have seen our highs, lows and even renewed times. It's been a challenge but for the first time in a while,  I feel more focused on breathing life into my creative endeavors.  So, when I heard about this women's expo, I just knew this would be good inspiration for me and it was.

Recently, my husband and I attended the Ultimate Women's Expo in Anaheim, California. This was our first time and it was awesome. The Women's Expo host several of these events around the country every year.

When I walked into the event, the dj was pumping the music and the ladies were radiating happy, fun vibes.  There were numerous vendors selling everything from make-up and hair tools to clothes and jewelry to homeopathic health products. Many women (and a few men) enjoyed the arts and crafts, painting activities, massages, cupcake decorating and even exercise areas. I missed the fashion shows, but maybe next time I will get to see that. (Love fashion shows!)

Here is a hobo wall hanging project I made.  The sample looked like one of those "dream catchers." Not sure what I will do with it, but it was fun sitting there with a bunch of others crafting.

Many topics were covered on the main stage. On Saturday, I saw the Food Network's Chef Anne Burrell and this other wonderful entrepreneur and author L. Renee Richardson. She overcame such odds and created a successful business with her husband.

I had such a good time Saturday, that I went back Sunday to hear more speakers. Mompreneur and actress Tori Spelling and financial coach Lynn Richardson gave good information about overcoming fears and provided practical financial steps.

When I got home that night, I was so full of inspiration and more motivated to look at my dreams with hopeful anticipation. Not sure where all this excitement is taking me but I am up for the ride.

Now that is my inspired face leaving the expo and re-entering my dreams.

My Birthday Blog Party

Welcome to my Birthday Blog Party! I am starting my celebration early to fully enjoy my day. My actual birthday is May 29th but why not start early right? :) When I think of birthdays past, they were always such exciting times for me. Many of my birthdays were celebrated with fun parties from my childhood to my young adult years. I loved all of those special parties and to this day, I still love it. Maybe this is where my love for event planning all started. At my 3rd birthday, my parents gave me a big one. I don't really remember but the pictures are so cool. I had lots of kids there, a clown, a little merry-go-round ride and lots of games. I had a white little outfit on and was looking so cute for a Spring party. Boy, I looked so happy! Also, I was brave not to be afraid of the clown, too. My mom was holding me as I blew the candles out. Another year, I had my first slumber party. That was so fun! I invited several friends and ...

Vintage Layout

I wanted to share this layout with you all. I recently submitted a design team application and I had to make a layout. I haven't made a layout in years so it was a nice challenge. I enjoyed making the first one so much I wanted to try another one. This one is dedicated to my sweet grandmother, Thelma Cobbs. This was her college picture back in the 1930's. I just love this picture of her, the sepia tone color and the style is so classic.  Her style has influenced my artistic approach.  I loved all her lace handkerchiefs, hats, gloves, purses and jewel. So I have taken a lot of her traditional, glamours style and use it on my cards and now layouts.  I know she would be so proud to see her fashion sense in my work. Maybe it is my way of keeping her alive and close to me.  Love and miss you Nana! Supplies used are: Webster's Pages patterned paper, Scenic Route rub-on words, Prima flowers, leaves from Michael's, form adhesive on the lady images, cream ribbon and white...
