Pretty Pink Hat

Hey everyone! I hope you are all doing well! Today, is a story of determination and fun. Back in January, I saw this crochet hat tutorial by Melanie Ham on YouTube:. Crochet Hat Video.
It was cold and I thought it would be fun to try to make it. I started learning to crochet last year at a local church. So, I have some beginning skills but that is it.

I excitedly jumped into this project and was crocheting away. Weeks after I started, I finished the first step and was ready to stitch it together.

THEN, I REALIZED I had done it all wrong! LOL!!!! My measurements were all off. It was to be vertical not horizontal. Yes, how frustrating!!! After reviewing the instructions again and again, I decided to take it ALL apart and start over. Oh boy!

Fortunately, I had some previous experience with starting over. The lady who taught me how to crochet at that church class took my crocheting projects apart several times. I was upset about it but then I realized that is the best way to learn and correct my mistakes. (This sounds like a life lesson.) Glad she taught me not to be afraid to start over. It is apart of the process. So, the unraveling began!

This is where my determination kicked in. I wanted to get it right so I could wear it and feel that good feeling of accomplishment. So after weeks of working on it little by little it came together. Last night, I was so excited to finish it.

It is a little big, but for my first time I think it is great.  Here in the Los Angeles area it is almost 100 degrees today so I won't be wearing it no time soon. LOL! But the point is I had fun and have a cute hat to wear down the road.

Check it out!

If you have never tried crocheting, give it a try! Melanie Ham has some good beginning level videos.

Our Romantic Anniversary Dinner

Happy Thursday! I hope your week has been great.  Today I wanted  to share some of our wedding anniversary pictures with you.  Last Sunday, my hubby arranged for us to have a romantic dinner at the very place where we had our wedding reception.  I was so excited when I found out that they set up a table for us to have the whole banquet room to ourselves.  How great was that??? The restaurant is right on the bay and has the most spectacular  views.  So when we arrived they had a table set up for us right by the windows so we could get an even better view.  They had the rest of the room set up for an event but I still could remember how it looked the night of our wedding with the lights and the dance floor.  Plus the left side of the room is nothing but windows so you can see more of this secluded bay. So as we dined we watched the sunset and it was so fabulous.  Even at night all the lights from the surroundin...

Happy Hearts

Today I will be sharing one a several painting I recently finished. This one is one of my favorites. I wanted to try two faces and just love how they turned out. It was fun going crazy with the multi-colored background. The hearts were made using my new favorite thing to make from toilet paper rolls- STAMPS.  I saw them on Julie Balzer's blog. Toilet Paper Tube Stamps  Then I used my fingers to paint the inside of the hearts. So neat! Take a look and I hope you feel the love and joy in this piece. Aren't the afro's fabulous!!! LOL! They were my first try and look pretty darn good. The little girls afro puff is so cute and reminds me of the ones I had as a child.   I love the hearts on their clothes. I used my stencil to make the design then painted around just to show the insides. Hope you enjoyed and come back this week to see some other paintings. Have a good one!

Cupcakes Anyone?

Happy Fall! Last Summer I took a cupcake decorating class at Michael's and I loved it. It was really great to learn the basics. This was all new to me and I was excited to try it out.  All Summer I wanted to make more but the weather got too hot to bake so I had to wait. Finally we had a break with some cooler temps and I was able to get back to these yummy treats.   I made two of my favorite colors: happy sunny yellow and hot pink. Oh, and they tasted good too.        Have you tried cupcake or cake decorating before? Isn't it like art? Maybe that is why I love it. Now I can't wait to make some more. Thanks for stopping by!
